When my fabulous marketing exec Becca Stevenson at Cranthorpe Millner, asked me to write an article for a newspaper I really struggled to know where to begin. I had never written an article before and struggled to structure my thoughts. Writing can be a wonderful and creative process, however when I find myself getting writer's block it can be frustrating, exasperating and discouraging.
Persistence and taking regular breaks is key for me. Taking our dog out for a walk and getting some fresh air enables new ideas to emerge, and as I physically move I literally find myself reordering my thoughts and inevitably the structure of what I am writing.
It took me several days to write these articles wanting to ensure that the various locations where John was stationed were highlighted in the geographical areas of the different newspapers, and where possible I also wanted to include Rita's voice and experiences.
A huge thank you to all the NationalWorld newspapers that have published the article 'Wartime letters bring history to life in Dear Mr Snippet' this week. It has been very exciting to see how far these have been shared across the UK.
